About the Event
The City of Bethlehem and Liberty Property Trust have partnered in one of the more modern projects ever to come to historic Downtown Bethlehem.
And they, along with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, invite you to take part in this history in the making. A large granite, precision laser-cut Bethlehem star has been created to be placed in the center of the intersection at Main and Market Streets. This impressive piece of work is the centerpiece of the streetscape project that has been a collaboration between the City and Liberty Property Trust. Along with the implementation of the star they are also replacing a 100 year old water-line below Main Street to eliminate any near-future digging.
The construction will be most likely take six to eight weeks and will begin on Monday, August 27. Because of the nature of the project, some traffic flow will be interrupted due to the elimination of one lane; however it is not expected to cause extended delays. There will be two-way traffic for most of the construction period. Tony Iannelli, President and CEO of The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber, is more than grateful for the project,
“At a time when infrastructure projects are difficult to come by, I commend the city and Bob Kiel of Liberty Property Trust for their work on this great project. There is no doubt that this star will do nothing but improve this already impressive downtown.
A time-capsule will also be placed underneath the star filled with mementos, letters and other items from the Historic Downtown merchants and a few local residents.
There will also be a great promotion for shoppers to win big prizes if they shop in the stores and restaurants in the area surrounded by the construction.
